MATT COHEN - EXES
When we last spoke to Matt, at the end of 2024, he was prepping his first full length-feature as director, “Exes”. With the shoot now over, and with Matt deep in his edit, we caught up with him again to talk about the experience.
It’s a conversation that touches on shooting his shot with Robert Singer, collaboration with Supernatural cast mates (including Mark Sheppard and Briana Buckmaster), Public Domain, and of course, our mutual love and gratitude for one Richard Speight, Jr.
MAMA BEAR
"Mama Bear", Matt's high octane action short was made as “proof of concept” for a future feature film. Written by Matt's long time collaborator Lee Ehlers, the film stars Matt's wife, Mandy Musgrave, as a mother forced to confront her dark past. When a tragic accident leaves her son in dire need of an organ donor, this seemingly mild soccer mom must track down the only match - her dangerously criminal ex - in a race against time to save her child.
As with his latest project, Matt utilised the talents of several SPN alum for the project, including Rich, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Kim Rhodes, Jim Beaver, Brianna Buckmaster, Adam Fergus, and more. Funded with support from fans, through a perks laded campaign on Indiegogo, and an Ebay costume sale, "Mama Bear" hit the festival circuit in 2019, bagging Best Action Film at Los Angeles' Hollyshorts Film Festival.
